As a Senior Ecologist, you will join a team of over 50 ecologists with more than 30 years of experience in ecological surveys, assessments, and environmental consultancy. Your expertise will contribute to projects involving soil, land use, hydrology, sustainable drainage, arboriculture, ecosystem services, natural capital assessment, biodiversity strategies, and cultural heritage across the UK, Europe, and internationally.

In this role, you will focus on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and work within our Environmental team to improve quality of life through environmental management, technical expertise, and sustainability. Your projects may include Urban and Greenfield Residential Development, Highway and Rail Schemes, Power Stations, Electrical and Gas Infrastructure, and more. You will work with a diverse client base including EDF Energy, National Grid, Environment Agency, Transport for London, Highways England, Network Rail, Canal and River Trust, and Housing Associations.

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be accountable for coordinating and completing assigned tasks and projects, leading small to medium sized projects, managing client relationships, and ensuring delivery meets time, budget, and Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) targets. You will provide technical advice, lead by example, and have opportunities for personal development and mentorship from industry-recognised Technical Leaders.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience working within Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) projects
- Commercial and project management skills for small to medium projects
- Knowledge of ecological principles, relevant environmental and EcIA legislation, policy, and guidance
- In-depth knowledge of particular plant or animal groups and appropriate field survey skills
- Experience categorizing and assessing habitats based on plant communities
- Proven track record in writing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements
- Basic experience with project and/or plan-level Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA)
- Experience in bid production and client interaction
- Ability to lead surveys and manage small survey teams

Qualifications
