Our Water Optimisation team leads some of the UK's most complex and high-profile water programmes, supporting clients through AMP8 and beyond. We partner with leading water companies and contractors to deliver innovative solutions that enhance resilience, sustainability, and long-term environmental performance.

We are seeking a Principal or Senior Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary teams across a diverse portfolio of schemes. You will drive technical excellence, foster strong client relationships, and deliver successful outcomes for major water infrastructure investments.

This role involves responsibility for medium to large scale, complex multi-disciplinary projects or elements of major projects with fees typically exceeding £1M. You will demonstrate strong design management capability, sector experience, and senior-level client and project management skills.

Key responsibilities include technically leading and coordinating multi-disciplined wastewater or water treatment/infrastructure projects throughout the design lifecycle, collaborating with clients and partners to maintain Arcadis’ reputation for quality and innovation, managing resources and recruitment needs, ensuring commercial rigour and profitable delivery, providing line management and career development for team members, and promoting a culture of safety, quality, sustainability, and innovation.

You will also work closely with other Arcadis teams to foster collaboration and share knowledge across the business.

Experience
- Extensive experience managing medium to large scale, complex multi-disciplinary water or wastewater projects
- Proven design manager capability with applied sector experience
- Strong consulting skills including project and client relationship management at senior management level
- Experience managing business relationships at senior management level
- Extensive contract, commercial, project, and programme management experience
- Experience working on complex design and delivery frameworks and/or design and build projects
- Demonstrable experience building and sustaining successful teams
- Digital curiosity and proficiency
- Excellent communication skills, able to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders

Qualifications
- Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering or other directly related discipline
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with membership of a relevant professional institution such as ICE, IMechE, IET, IChemE, or CIWEM
- Relevant water industry experience
