Salary
£22,500 per annum during apprenticeship. Following completion, starting salary between £38,126 and £47,674 per annum depending on shift pattern.
About the Role
Start your Project Engineer career with Thames Water, the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. As a Project Engineer Apprentice, you will help deliver essential projects that keep water flowing and communities thriving. You’ll gain practical experience working alongside experienced engineers and delivery partners on mechanical, electrical, civil, control, and instrumentation projects valued up to £5 million. You will support projects from inception to delivery in a safety-critical environment, learning how to scope, design, cost, and manage projects while promoting a zero-compromise approach to health and safety including CDM compliance.
Typical duties include supporting the delivery of small to medium capital projects, collaborating with operations teams and contractors, assisting with producing and reviewing key documents such as RAMS, project plans, and commissioning information, supporting commissioning, handover and project close-out, and ensuring training records, test certificates, and as-built drawings are completed and handed over.
Training and Qualification
You will study with the University of the Built Environment through a 42-month structured apprenticeship programme leading to a Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor Standard and a Certificate of Higher Education in Construction & Built Environment. The programme includes weekly virtual learning sessions, live seminars, recorded content, and online resources.

Experience
No previous engineering experience required. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are essential.
About you
Curious, motivated, and keen to learn with a genuine interest in engineering and a desire to build a future with Thames Water. You must hold a full UK driving licence, have access to your own vehicle with business-use car insurance, and be able to work collaboratively in a safety-critical environment.
Qualifications
GCSE Maths and English at grades 9–4 (A*–C). 64 UCAS points from any accepted Level 3 qualification(s).
