About the Role
Be the backbone of recycling by joining us as a Site Operative at our Dulcote HWRC. You will play an important role in ensuring the site runs safely, efficiently and in line with environmental and operational requirements. This hands-on, outdoor role involves working directly with members of the public, helping them use the site safely and ensuring waste is correctly segregated for recycling. You will be part of the team responsible for keeping the site clean, safe and well organised while providing a friendly and helpful service to customers. Your core responsibilities include supporting the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the recycling centre; assisting and advising members of the public with safe disposal and segregation of waste; helping maximise recycling by ensuring correct sorting; directing and controlling site traffic to ensure safe movement of vehicles and users; monitoring waste compliance with site licence requirements; assisting with safe handling and segregation of hazardous and special waste; maintaining site cleanliness and basic maintenance; completing relevant paperwork accurately; preventing unauthorised tipping, theft and inappropriate site use; delivering excellent customer service and representing Biffa professionally; following all health, safety, environmental and operational procedures; and working as part of a team to maintain high standards across the site.

Experience
Previous experience within the waste or recycling industry is desirable but not essential. Experience carrying out basic site maintenance or minor repairs and working outdoors in adverse weather conditions is advantageous.
About You
Good customer service and communication skills. Comfortable working directly with members of the public. Able to work effectively as part of a team and use your own initiative. Confident and professional in dealing with difficult situations. A good understanding of, or interest in, recycling and waste segregation. Reliable, self-motivated and able to manage competing priorities. Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Willing to work weekends and bank holidays with rest days during the week. Strong commitment to health and safety.
Qualifications
Basic literacy, numeracy and record-keeping skills. Basic health and safety knowledge is desirable. A full driving licence is also desirable.
