About the Role
Are you passionate about protecting the environment and solving complex challenges? Join Thames Water as a Wastewater Process Specialist and play a hands-on role in improving treatment performance, resolving site issues, and helping our Operations teams meet critical environmental standards. This exciting opportunity involves field investigations, process optimisation, and data-driven problem solving, allowing you to make a real impact as an environmental custodian at the forefront of wastewater operations.

Key responsibilities include becoming a subject matter expert in wastewater treatment and regulation, gathering and analysing treatment data to inform decisions, and ensuring compliance with permitting requirements through innovative solutions. You will engage with internal project teams and external stakeholders to maintain fluid communication and minimise risk during change periods. Optimising site processes to reduce cost-of-treatment, improving flow compliance, fault-finding site issues, and proactively learning about new wastewater technologies are also essential aspects of the role.

As a confident communicator and capable rapport builder, you will lead regular progress and risk review meetings, produce investigative reports and root cause analyses of sample or pollution incidents, and share lessons learned to prevent recurrence. You will participate in an out-of-hours rota, offering advice during event scenarios, and commit to a development programme aimed at progressing to Senior Process Specialist performance in the future.

Experience
- Suitable for candidates with a scientific or engineering degree-level background or similar.
- Experience in fault finding, process improvements, and delivering change.
- Experience in wastewater treatment operations roles would be advantageous.

- Confident in holding in-depth, technical conversations and able to communicate complex information clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Strong skills in data handling, processing, reporting, and adapting to IT systems.
- Excellent time management skills, able to self-organise and work independently on site.
- A full UK driving licence is mandatory, with access to your own transport and business-use insurance (car allowance provided).

Qualifications
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
