During the 12-month placement, you will be exposed to real projects and clients, gaining experience to help you specialise within your chosen engineering discipline. You will develop core engineering and consulting techniques applicable to projects in the UK and potentially internationally. As part of a global community of structural engineers, you will work on complex and challenging buildings in both public and private sectors, delivering high quality and sustainable design solutions.

You will be supported and mentored to deliver design work and collaborate with other professionals on projects ranging from small local developments to large strategic international projects. Using advanced design tools and techniques, you will contribute to the development of structural solutions for new and existing buildings, including schools, gigafactories, and data centres. Typical tasks include designing substructures and superstructures of various types and materials, assessing existing structures, reviewing proposals from contractors or consultants, coordinating with other disciplines, conducting site visits, and assisting with project and cost management within the structural team.

Experience
You will be working towards a degree in a relevant subject (Placement & Intern only). Arcadian skills such as resilience, creativity, analytical thinking, and teamwork are essential. Experience with site-based working and willingness to travel and stay away from home when required are important, although virtual working is embraced where possible.

About you
You have excellent communication skills and the ability to use your technical knowledge to influence and consult stakeholders. You are motivated to develop your expertise and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary and multinational team environment.

Qualifications
Accepted degrees include BEng or MEng, MSc in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with structural interests. You will be working towards your degree during the placement.
