The energy landscape is rapidly transforming. As a Senior Protection & Control (P&C) Engineer, you will accelerate your career by joining our industry-leading Transmission and Distribution teams. You will partner with clients to understand their challenges and apply your expertise to deliver innovative engineering and construction projects primarily in industrial, transmission/distribution, and renewable sectors.

Your responsibilities will include the design of transmission protection systems for voltages up to 400 kV, reviewing designs from internal teams and external contractors, and delivering tender design estimates and programs. You will guide junior engineers by providing technical advice and support, ensuring safe design and operation of electrical networks, and advising on design changes. You will also manage Construction and Design Management (CDM) processes, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within quality standards and budget.

Site visits and non-intrusive surveys will be part of your role, along with proactive risk identification and management. You will attend site meetings and be accountable for adopting the best technical solutions while challenging and improving existing practices. Your role will require effective communication with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven technical capability in the design and application of power system protection.
- Experience with protection application at transmission voltage levels up to 400 kV preferred, gained within transmission utilities, consultancies, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong candidates with distribution background will also be considered.
- Preparation of Protection and Control design deliverables, feasibility studies, reports, programmes, and cost estimating.
- Calculation of relay settings and preparation of logic files.
- Experience in Busbar, Feeder, Transformer, Reactor, Circuit Breaker fail, DAR protections, and SCADA interface is essential; FACTS and HVDC protection systems experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of IEC61850 communication protocols.
- Experience preparing Single Line Diagrams, Substation Layouts, Key Line Drawings, Panel general arrangements, equipment bills of materials, wiring and cable diagrams, cable schedules, and DC battery sizing.
- Interface engineering experience between protection systems and primary/plant equipment.
- Familiarity with relay coordination and short circuit calculation software such as ASPEN OneLiner, ETAP, DIgSILENT is advantageous.
- National Grid TP141, CDAE, or LCDAE Protection and Settings authorisation is advantageous.
- Detailed design experience on SCADA systems including network architecture and HMI design (e.g., Zenon-Copa-Data) is advantageous.
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical and commercial issues effectively.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and developing strong working relationships.
- Proven experience in writing clear and concise technical documentation.

Qualifications
- Relevant engineering qualifications in Electrical or related disciplines.
- Substantial experience with Construction and Design Management (CDM).
- Authorisation or certification related to protection and settings is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and protection system design.
- Experience with industry standards and best practices in transmission and distribution protection engineering.
