The Places Design Practice is seeking a career-minded Civil Engineer with proven experience in the design and delivery of civil engineering and urban development activities within building projects. This includes, but is not limited to, surface and foul drainage, utilities, ground/earthworks, and highways interfaces. The role supports Urban Development services by collaborating with cross-GBA teams, GEC, and global Places expertise.

Experience in Industrial Manufacturing, Technology, or Defence projects is welcomed.

Key responsibilities include undertaking civil engineering design contributing to sustainable development, applying Arcadis Health and Safety Principles, collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams, preparing design solutions at various project stages including drawings, BIM models, reports, and specifications, attending project meetings, and reviewing team members’ work to ensure accuracy. The role also involves preparing Designer Hazard Logs, communicating residual risks to the Principal Designer, providing technical input to Design Decision Logs and Project Assumptions registers, resolving technical issues, and mentoring junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.

Experience
Proven experience in the design and delivery of civil engineering and urban development activities as part of building projects, including surface water and foul water drainage, highways, and utility design. Experience with Industrial Manufacturing, Technology, or Defence projects is advantageous.

Qualifications
Degree qualified with Chartered or Incorporated status preferred. Candidates close to achieving chartered status will also be considered. Proficiency in software design tools such as MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and BIM integration is essential. Strong understanding of relevant design codes, standards, and construction principles including SuDS, SfA, DMRB, and Building Regulations. Demonstrated ability to apply both software and manual calculation methods with a sound evidence-based approach to problem-solving.
