About the Role
Cundall’s Air Quality team aims to create better environments by improving occupant exposure and ensuring positive effects on both external and internal environments. The team covers all aspects of air quality throughout the entire project lifecycle, from pre-planning and detailed design to post-planning stages. Our integrated services establish current and future ambient (outdoor) air quality impacts and exposure, specify and evaluate appropriate mitigation controls, and measure and manage indoor air quality to meet health and wellbeing requirements.
As a Graduate Air Quality Consultant based in Birmingham, you will join a specialist team working on some of the most exciting construction projects in the UK and worldwide. Under expert guidance, you will develop your skills in data analysis, air quality modelling, site-based monitoring, and design specifications. You will liaise with colleagues, clients, and environmental regulators to acquire, collate, and analyse relevant data and produce high-quality reports, including air quality chapters of Environmental Statements.
Over time, you will assume greater responsibility and autonomy, supported by accredited professional development programmes from the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM), progressing towards Chartership (CEnv or CSci). Cundall is committed to sustainable development and fosters a collaborative, inclusive culture that supports professional excellence and knowledge sharing across its global offices.
Experience
Knowledge of UK air quality legislation, policy and guidance (e.g. LAQM.TG22, IAQM Guidance). Understanding of air quality monitoring methods and assessment methodologies. Ability to review and interpret technical data. Experience in air quality consultancy, GIS, ambient monitoring, indoor air quality, odour assessments, or atmospheric dispersion modelling (such as ADMS) is desirable but not essential.
About you
Strong technical capability with excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively within a team and liaise with clients and regulators. Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines. Commercial awareness influencing design solutions. A proactive approach with a strong desire to use initiative to overcome challenges. Commitment to professional development and sustainability. Full UK driving licence is desirable.
Qualifications
Accredited with a BSc and/or MSc degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as environmental science, physics, chemistry, or geography. Keen interest in developing expertise and a rewarding career in air quality consultancy. Membership or willingness to join professional bodies such as IAQM or IES is advantageous.
