About the Role
At WSP, you have the opportunity to work on landmark projects that make a real difference. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior or Principal Hydrologist to join our dynamic Sustainable Water Management team. This role offers the chance to lead and contribute to high-profile Water Industry Natural Environment Programme (WINEP) and Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) projects across the UK. You will be involved in a significant programme of AMP8 WINEP projects for multiple high-profile UK water companies, covering geographically and environmentally diverse locations. Additionally, you will support water companies in developing hydrology for their WRMPs and contribute to challenging Environmental Destination projects as AMP8 progresses.
Our Catchment Science team delivers a wide range of services including water resources and water security, hydrology and hydraulics, water quality, hydroecology, and hydrogeology. We provide high-quality technical advice to government departments, water industry clients, regulators, and other industrial sectors such as power, transport, nuclear, mining, commercial, and oil and gas. Demand for our expertise is growing significantly as AMP8 commences, with WSP recognised as a leading consultant for Environmental Destination investigations.

Experience
- Proven track record contributing to hydrological and water management elements of WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs in recent AMP cycles.
- Experience developing rainfall runoff models and sound understanding of model calibration techniques.
- Solid understanding of hydrology approaches required for water resources applications in England and Wales.
- Familiarity with demand management and water resources modelling approaches.
- Good knowledge of UK water resources management regulations including Water Resources Planning Guidelines and WINEP guidance such as Preventing Deterioration and Environmental Destination.
- Understanding of climate change resilience assessment approaches.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance, including producing high-quality client and stakeholder/regulator-facing deliverables.
- Programming skills (e.g. Python and/or R) are advantageous, with an interest in further development.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to write concise, high-quality reports.
- Ability to work collaboratively across sectors and disciplines to deliver hydrological aspects of diverse projects.

Qualifications
- MSc focused on water-related subjects (e.g. hydrology & water resources, sustainable water management).
- BSc in a related discipline such as physical geography, earth sciences, geology, or civil engineering.
- You will have gained, or be working towards, chartership with a relevant professional body.
