About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects that make a real difference. We are seeking a Principal or Associate Flood Risk Consultant to lead and manage flood risk assessment projects, directing teams on technically complex assignments for a diverse range of clients. You will be part of our national Sustainable Water Management team, working across flood risk modelling, LLFA technical services, flood management solutions, Water EIA, WFD assessment, permitting applications, geomorphology, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). Your main focus will be Flood Risk Assessment for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas, with additional involvement in flood modelling, flood management, and Water EIA as appropriate to your experience.
Your role will encompass technical, management, and commercial responsibilities including project delivery leadership, client and stakeholder management, supervising and reviewing technical inputs, business development, and mentoring junior colleagues. You will play a key role in growing WSP's technical capability and innovation within the Sustainable Water Management team.
Our Liverpool team consists of 8 water environment and flood risk professionals collaborating regionally and nationally. We work on major infrastructure projects such as Mersey Tidal Power, HyNet North West, and East West Rail, serving clients including National Grid, Network Rail, and National Highways, as well as Local Authorities and Lead Local Flood Authorities. Experience
- Proven experience in Flood Risk Assessment preparation and at least one supporting area such as flood risk modelling, flood risk strategy development, drainage design, or Water EIA, preferably in consultancy.
- Demonstrable leadership or significant contribution to technical inputs and teams delivering successful projects for planning and permitting major infrastructure.
- Experience with Development Consent Order planning regime for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects in the UK.
- Excellent knowledge of UK flood risk regulatory frameworks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a successful track record managing client and stakeholder relationships.
- Practical project management skills including budget and team management, comfortable handling challenging projects.

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science, or engineering discipline.
