This role is available at Senior or Principal grade depending on experience.
Your main focus will be on EIA and Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments and related groundwater investigations for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas. You will undertake a variety of technical, management, and commercial responsibilities, including leading project delivery, managing client and internal stakeholder interfaces, and ensuring high-quality technical outputs. Mentoring and sharing your expertise with junior colleagues will be a key part of your role.
Responsibilities include playing a leading role in project delivery, reviewing and approving technical inputs and documents, supporting business development and proposal preparation, managing projects balancing programme, budget and quality, and contributing to the growth of WSP’s technical capability and innovation in groundwater and water EIA.
You will join a national Sustainable Water Management team of over 350 water science and engineering professionals, working on major infrastructure projects such as Sizewell C nuclear power station and HyNET North West, with clients including National Grid, Scottish Power Energy Networks, and Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks. The team operates with a fair and transparent project allocation system that considers personal interests and development aspirations.
WSP offers a culture that embraces curiosity, diversity, and inclusion, with a strong focus on work-life balance, health and wellbeing, and professional development.

- Demonstrable track record of leading or significantly contributing to technical inputs and teams for successful project delivery related to planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects.
- Experience preparing groundwater EIA, WFD and supporting study inputs for planning applications and environmental permits.
- Knowledge of surface water or peatland assessments is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and its application in the UK.
- Good knowledge of UK regulatory context for planning and EIA.
- Experience with the Development Consent Order (DCO) planning regime for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects is preferred for Principal or Associate grade applicants.
- Practical project management experience including budget and team management, with ability to manage challenging projects.
About you
