About the Role
As a Management Accountant at Thames Water, you will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting and insightful analysis for the Water business. You will lead the monthly management accounts close, prepare journals and balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure the integrity of financial data. Working closely with stakeholders, you will provide meaningful commentary to support decision-making, drive process improvements, and help maintain strong financial governance and controls across the business.
You will take the lead on closing Water Management Accounts and provide assurance of numbers along with insightful commentary for Leakage, OSCC, SCOPI, and Water Networks Capex Reclass. You will review Water end-to-end processes and drive improvements collaboratively with team members.
Key responsibilities include supporting the Finance Manager in closing Water Management accounts, performing reconciliations of key control data such as GL balances, accruals, provisions, prepayments, and inventory, preparing and reviewing journal entries with a focus on automation, and providing insight into results during period end close related to key cost drivers like job volumes and water production levels.
You will work across the wider finance team to document, align, and improve processes to drive efficiency and consistency. Understanding and applying the Activity Based Costing model for Water Networks monthly to split operating and capital costs is essential. You will also produce and prepare Water Networks Capitalisation audits in accordance with accounting standards, coordinate year-end audits, and complete key accounting judgement papers.
Additional duties include producing and preparing Leakage regulatory tables, monitoring external reporting requirements, researching accounting issues, and responding to ad hoc analytics requests to support Business Partners with cost visibility, business case preparation, and financial performance investigations.
Experience
Proven experience in management accounting with strong knowledge of financial statements and accounting principles. Experience working with SAP is essential. Utilities industry experience and systems experience with HFM are advantageous but not required.

Qualifications
Accounting qualification required (ACA, CIMA, CPA, CMA, CHAE or equivalent). Strong knowledge and understanding of IFRS and tax reporting are essential.
