About the Role
We are recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our team at Rye Meads Sewage Treatment Works. In this role, you will use your mechanical and electrical expertise to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimal supervision. Your work will ensure that our sites remain operational, helping to reduce pollution and improve Thames Water's environmental impact.

Your responsibilities will include carrying out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment following company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns. You will investigate plant failures and perform repairs promptly to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents. You will provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees as needed.

Equipment you will work on includes various pumps and control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as variable speed drives (VSDs), automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, chemical handling and dosing equipment. You will also participate in a standby rota after completing the relevant training.

All necessary PPE, tools, a company van, and a fuel card are provided.

Experience
You should be a time-served electrical apprentice with significant experience working in a multi-skilled capacity. Ideally, you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification (NVQ2/3) to enable you to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair both mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently. Candidates with mechanical or electrical experience only will be considered for development to dual-skilled status.

Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential. The role requires physical fitness due to working in confined spaces, with successful completion of appropriate training.

Qualifications
Previous electrical apprenticeship and qualifications such as ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Engineering are required. Mechanical NVQ2/3 upskill is crucial for this role.
