Location
Reading, London and the Thames Valley

Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities available, potentially increasing annual earnings by £8,000-£10,000 upon completion of essential company training.

Salary
Up to £47,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience, plus company van, tools, and PPE provided.

About the Role
As an Instrumentation, Controls & Automation (ICA) Technician at Thames Water, you will work within multi-disciplinary teams alongside operational teams including systems, mechanical, and electrical technicians. Your responsibilities will include installing, modifying, and commissioning new plant equipment to relevant standards, diagnosing and repairing faults on systems and plants, and proactively identifying and reporting works for enhancement. You will deliver cost-effective improvements to assets and systems, helping to reduce pollution and improve Thames Water's environmental impact.

Key duties include ensuring health and safety compliance for yourself and others, carrying out planned and defect maintenance on wastewater assets, recording work and asset information to improve business performance, and providing specialist technical advice. You will also coach and develop staff, including apprentices, and contribute positively to customer satisfaction by interacting professionally with internal and external customers.

All necessary PPE, tools, and a company van will be provided when on duty and on call.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience in calibration and maintenance of front-line instrumentation.
- Practical understanding of operational plant and control systems.
- Knowledge and experience with relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen Bradley), including management and programming.
- Ability to read and fault-find from circuit diagrams.
- Experience with inverter drives is desirable.
- Understanding of Wonderware and ClearSCADA is advantageous.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions or escalate as needed.
- Experience providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.

Qualifications
- Ideally qualified to HNC level or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an instrumentation, control and automation discipline.
- Preferably holds an 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification.
