About the Role
We are recruiting a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Pumping team at Crossness STW. In this role, you will use your mechanical and electrical expertise to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimal supervision. Your work will ensure our sites remain operational, helping to reduce pollution and positively impact the environment.
Your responsibilities will include carrying out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment to minimise breakdowns, investigating and repairing plant failures promptly to avoid process interruptions, and providing technical advice and training to trainees when required. You will work on equipment such as pumps, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems including VSDs, automatic valves, penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives, and chemical handling and dosing equipment.
You will also participate in a standby rota following relevant training. All necessary PPE, tools, a company van, and a fuel card will be provided.
Experience
- Time-served electrical apprenticeship with significant experience working in a multi-skilled electrical systems capacity.
- Ideally upskilled with a mechanical qualification (NVQ2/3) to enable dual-skilled work on mechanical and electrical plant equipment.
- For candidates with only mechanical or electrical experience, development to dual-skilled status will be supported.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential.
- Physical fitness to work in confined spaces after completing appropriate training.
- Valid driving licence is essential.

Enthusiastic and committed to working safely and efficiently, you will be proactive in diagnosing and repairing faults and willing to support and train others. You should be physically fit and adaptable to working in varied environments including confined spaces.
Qualifications
- Electrical apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications such as ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Engineering.
- Mechanical NVQ2/3 qualification or willingness to upskill mechanically is crucial.
