About the Role
Equans is seeking an experienced Operations Manager - Mechanical to join our team at North Middlesex University Hospital on a permanent basis. You will be responsible for the efficient and effective operation and maintenance of hospital healthcare engineering systems and services, promoting good engineering practices while ensuring compliance with statutory and healthcare engineering standards. Key responsibilities include managing resources through the Maximo database, financial management through invoicing, compliance reporting, collation of estates information, management of specialist service providers, asset database oversight, insurance registers, and scheduling planned preventative maintenance in support of the Estates management team.

You will support Estates Management in providing a 24-hour maintenance service within the Portsmouth Hospital Trust for the service provider. Overseeing day-to-day management of healthcare engineering systems, you will ensure all contractual and legislative planned and reactive maintenance tasks are completed on time and to a high standard. You will provide technical support to resolve complex estate issues, monitor equipment maintenance records and service reports, ensuring prompt follow-up actions are recorded within the CAFM system and documentation, and maintain site document control processes.

Additional duties include managing and overseeing external subcontractors and professionals, supervising works on healthcare engineering systems to ensure compliance with Good Industry Practice and HTM standards, and developing close relationships with stakeholders such as the Engineering Manager, Senior Operations Manager, Head of Projects and Estates, and site delivery teams. You will assist in the development and delivery of a life-cycle plan, provide technical and managerial support, and implement risk management systems to prevent uncontrolled clinical impact.

The role requires working within the Estates Department's ISO 9001 quality system and operating in areas occupied by patients and staff, with full regard for health and safety.

Requirements

Experience
- ONC/HND in an Engineering discipline or equivalent
- Previous experience managing Mechanical Services
- Good understanding of HTM, HBN, and relevant British Standards
- Experience working on a PFI contract within the PFI delivery model
- Knowledge of healthcare engineering services is advantageous
