About the Role
Equans is seeking a Technical Manager & Senior Authorising Engineer (Water & Mechanical Healthcare) to join our Sustainable Facilities Management Division. This regional senior role primarily supports healthcare facilities across the South of England and Midlands, including around 20 hospitals and smaller healthcare sites such as Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and North Middlesex University Hospital. Reporting to the Regional Technical Director with day-to-day coordination through the Head of Technical, you will lead the Southern Region and provide expert Water Hygiene management support, specialising in healthcare environments while also supporting non-healthcare sites as priorities dictate.
As a highly skilled specialist, you will have responsibility and autonomy to shape and enhance the engineering support provided to the EQUANS business. You will ensure compliance with relevant standards including S/HTM 04-01, L8, ACOP HSG274, and other legislation. The role involves developing policies and procedures, managing third-party Authorising Engineer organisations, collaborating with operational teams to deliver engineering excellence, and driving innovation and best practice.
Continuous professional development is encouraged through engagement with industry professionals, attending and presenting at conferences, and staying current with regulatory changes and technological advancements. This is a dynamic role within a growing central engineering function, offering significant opportunities for impact and career development.
Experience
- Significant experience in Water Hygiene management, preferably within healthcare environments
- Proven track record in Engineering Management within related services environments
- Experience acting as a Responsible Person (RP) and Authorising Engineer (AE)
- Auditing and training experience
- Accident and incident investigation experience including report writing
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
About you
- Educated to degree level in engineering or equivalent through experience
- Member of relevant professional institutes such as CIBSE or IHEEM preferred
- Professionally registered as IEng or CEng desirable
- Registered IHEEM Water Authorising Engineer desirable
- Authorising Engineer qualification via recognised training body
- Expert understanding of L8 and S/HTM regulations and their implementation
- Ability to maintain professional competence through continuous learning and industry engagement
- Ability to pass a DBS Enhanced check (essential)
Qualifications
- Degree in engineering or equivalent experience
- Professional registration and Authorising Engineer qualification as above
- Relevant training in auditing, accident investigation, and water hygiene management
