About the Role
Are you interested in making a significant contribution to the conservation of nature in the north-east of Scotland? This exciting opportunity is for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the North East Scotland Conservation Team. You will assist in delivering bespoke tasks and project work to help achieve species and habitat conservation objectives aligned with the wider RSPB strategy. The north-east of Scotland boasts a stunning variety of species and habitats including farmland, peatlands, coastal areas, and associated species such as Corn bunting, farmland waders, seabirds, and Common Cranes.

The role involves monitoring and collating information on external developments and land use within key areas to inform planning casework responses, consent/licensing applications, and relevant policy consultations, working closely with Scottish Headquarters colleagues. You will manage data using RSPB’s bespoke Geographic Information System (GIS) software and organise files related to projects and casework. You will assist in developing and delivering individual projects to support RSPB priority species and habitat conservation actions.

Additional responsibilities include managing and developing volunteers, assisting in their recruitment to ensure the team has the necessary knowledge and skills, contributing to technical publications to maintain the quality and profile of conservation work, and promoting projects through newsletters and social media. You will also respond to wildlife queries from the public, supporters, and members, and support the Community Engagement Officer in delivering an ambitious community engagement programme.

Given the remote locations and limited public transport, the ability to drive is desirable. This varied role offers a great opportunity to develop your skills and experience while working in a fantastic landscape with a supportive team, enabling you to make a real contribution to nature conservation.
