About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects that make a positive impact on communities globally. We are expanding our world-class Ground and Water team and are seeking Senior and Principal Contaminated Land / Geo-Environmental Consultants to join us in Manchester. This role focuses on contaminated land assessment and remediation projects, supporting a strong pipeline of confirmed work moving into 2025. Key responsibilities include project and task management, managing site investigations, supervising fieldwork such as soil logging, environmental sampling, chemical and geotechnical testing, groundwater sampling and ground gas monitoring. You will be responsible for data collation, review and interpretation, preparation and review of technical reports including desk studies, ground investigation reports, remediation options appraisals and verification reports, as well as site investigation design. Developing and maintaining client relationships and ensuring all work meets the highest safety, health and environmental standards are essential. You will also provide support to early careers professionals.

Our team of over 150 professionals delivers land contamination management services across private and public sectors including property, government agencies, industrial, defence and nuclear sectors. We are involved in projects supporting energy transition and nuclear decommissioning, providing an excellent environment for professional growth and development. You will play a key role in day-to-day project delivery, working closely with colleagues, project managers and directors in a supportive and collaborative environment. Requirements

Experience
- Knowledge of planning, designing and managing site investigations
- Understanding and application of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations for safe site investigation design and implementation
- Familiarity with the UK land contamination regime and risk-based assessment approaches
- Report writing skills, presenting complex technical information clearly and accurately
- Data handling experience, including GIS usage (desirable)
- Understanding of various regulatory regimes including development planning consenting, environmental permitting, due diligence, nuclear site end states, and environmental impact assessments
- Knowledge of specialist technical areas such as quantitative risk assessment, waste/material management, radiological characterisation, hydrogeology, and remediation

Qualifications
- Relevant technical degree in chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, environmental science or related discipline
- Working towards or willing to work towards Chartership/Professional Qualification (e.g. QP) with a relevant institution
