About the Role
Join WSP’s world-class Ground and Water team as a Principal Contaminated Land / Geo-Environmental Consultant, supporting contaminated land assessment and remediation projects. You will be involved in key regional and national projects alongside core UK and global framework work, contributing to landmark initiatives including energy transition and nuclear decommissioning. You will manage projects and tasks, oversee site investigations, supervise fieldwork such as soil logging, environmental sampling, chemical and geotechnical testing, groundwater sampling, and ground gas monitoring. Responsibilities include data collation, review and interpretation, preparation and review of technical reports including desk studies, ground investigation reports, remediation options appraisals, and verification reports. You will also design site investigations, develop client relationships, ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental standards, and support early careers professionals.

Requirements

Experience
- Knowledge of planning, designing, and managing site investigations
- Understanding and application of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations for safe site investigation design and implementation
- Familiarity with the UK land contamination regime and risk-based assessment approaches
- Strong report writing skills, able to present complex technical information clearly and accurately
- Data handling experience, with GIS knowledge desirable
- Understanding of different regulatory regimes including development planning consenting (TCPA and DCO), environmental permitting, due diligence, nuclear site end states, GRR, and environmental impact assessment
- Expertise in specialist technical areas such as quantitative risk assessment, waste/material management, radiological characterisation, hydrogeology, and remediation

Qualifications
- Relevant technical degree in chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, environmental science, or related discipline
- Working towards or prepared to work towards Chartership / Professional Qualification (e.g. QP) with a relevant institution
