About the Role

As part of a growing and agile Environmental Planning team, we are seeking a Principal Environmental Consultant with a broad range of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) experience. In this role, you will collaborate with technical specialists on diverse projects, lead and coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments and related deliverables, work closely with clients, develop new business opportunities, and mentor team members.
Your expertise in environmental management, technical or sustainability disciplines will be applied across areas such as protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise. You will contribute to protecting our natural environment and water resources while supporting sustainable development in some of the world’s busiest and most beautiful locations.
In response to climate change, rapid urbanization, and biodiversity loss, your work will help address increasing environmental challenges such as floods and wildfires. You will play a key role in delivering optimal environmental outcomes through leadership, collaboration, and technical excellence.
Experience
- Strong knowledge of EIA practices, procedures, and environmental and sustainability principles
- Experience across a range of project types including energy, residential/mixed use/regeneration, and major infrastructure projects such as rail and highways
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate EIA screening, scoping activities, and Environmental Statements including technical review of specialist chapters
- Practical knowledge of the UK planning system and consenting process
- Excellent report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience reviewing others’ work to ensure quality
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing projects with strong project management and technical skills
- Experience consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders
- Commercial expertise including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance

Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
- Chartered status or working towards chartered status preferred
- Valid UK driving licence

- Experience delivering Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and/or Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) projects
- Knowledge and practical application of sustainability, waste, or carbon assessments
