About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects, connecting with leading experts and contributing to impactful engineering solutions. As a Principal Flood Risk/Drainage Engineer within the Development team, you will lead the engineering design aspects of projects, ensuring delivery within agreed timeframes and budgets. You will develop and nurture strong relationships with key clients, both internally and externally, exceeding their expectations through excellent communication and collaboration.

You will oversee junior team members producing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategy Reports, and be highly proficient in industry-standard software such as MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, and Civils 3D. Your role will involve spatial coordination, technical design, and project management from inception through to construction and handover on large-scale, complex projects.

Responsibilities include leading the preparation, checking, and submission of section agreements under the Water Industry Act 1991, reviewing technical reports, and effectively communicating complex technical information. You will lead discussions with Lead Local Flood Authorities, Environment Agency, and Water Authorities, champion health and safety practices, and mentor junior staff to support their professional development.

Working closely with colleagues across the Development discipline, you will share market intelligence, best practice, and innovation. You will engage with the Technical Leadership Group to promote technical innovation and support the Place Lead in establishing WSP Development’s profile in the local marketplace.

The Development team is a high-performing discipline within the Planning and Development business unit, delivering projects through the full lifecycle from land acquisition and planning support to detailed design and scheme implementation. Our vision is to be recognised as the best Development team in the industry, driven by expertise, people, clients, and operational excellence.
