About the Role
Join WSP’s world-class Ground and Water team as a Principal Geo-Environmental Consultant specialising in contaminated land assessment and remediation projects. You will be involved in key regional and national projects, supporting a strong pipeline of work moving into 2025. This role offers excellent career development potential including training and mentoring, within a supportive and flexible working environment.
Key responsibilities include project and task management, site investigation management and design, supervision of fieldwork such as soil logging, environmental sampling, chemical and geotechnical testing, groundwater sampling and ground gas monitoring. You will also be responsible for data collation, review and interpretation, preparation and review of technical reports including desk studies, ground investigation reports, remediation options appraisals and verification reports. Developing and maintaining client relationships and ensuring all work complies with safety, health and environmental standards are essential aspects of the role. You will also provide support to early careers professionals within the team.
WSP offers a collaborative environment with over 150 professionals providing land contamination management services across private and public sectors including property, government agencies, industrial, defence and nuclear sectors. The successful candidate will play a key role in project delivery, supported by experienced colleagues and leadership, with opportunities to engage in networks and social activities within the company.
Experience
- Proven knowledge of planning, designing and managing site investigations
- Understanding and application of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations for safe site investigation design and implementation
- Familiarity with the UK land contamination regime and risk-based assessment approaches
- Strong report writing skills, able to present complex technical information clearly and accurately
- Experience with data handling; GIS experience is desirable
- Knowledge of various regulatory regimes including development planning consenting (TCPA and DCO), environmental permitting, due diligence, nuclear site end states and GRR, and environmental impact assessment
- Expertise in specialist technical areas such as quantitative risk assessment, waste/material management, radiological characterisation, hydrogeology, and remediation

Qualifications
- Relevant technical degree in chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, environmental science or related discipline
- Working towards or prepared to work towards Chartership/Professional Qualification (e.g. QP) with a relevant institution
