About the Role
Join WSP’s world-class Ground and Water team as a Principal Geo-Environmental Consultant specialising in contaminated land assessment and remediation. You will contribute to key regional and national projects, supporting a strong pipeline of work into 2025. This role involves project and task management, overseeing site investigations, supervising fieldwork including soil logging, environmental sampling, chemical and geotechnical testing, groundwater sampling, and ground gas monitoring. You will be responsible for data collation, review and interpretation, preparation and review of technical reports such as desk studies, ground investigation reports, remediation options appraisals, and verification reports. You will also design site investigations, develop client relationships, and ensure all work complies with safety, health, and environmental standards. Supporting early careers professionals through training and mentoring is a key part of this role. Our team of over 150 professionals provides land contamination management services across private and public sectors including property, government agencies, industrial, defence, and nuclear sectors. We have expertise across all aspects of contaminated land and exciting projects related to energy transition and nuclear decommissioning. You will be supported in your professional development and play a key role in project delivery, working closely with project managers and directors. Experience
- Proven knowledge of planning, designing, and managing site investigations
- Understanding and application of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations
- Familiarity with UK land contamination regime and risk-based assessment approaches
- Strong report writing skills, able to present complex technical information clearly and accurately
- Data handling experience; GIS knowledge is desirable
- Awareness of different regulatory regimes including development planning consenting, environmental permitting, due diligence, nuclear site end states, and environmental impact assessment
- Expertise in specialist technical areas such as quantitative risk assessment, waste/material management, radiological characterisation, hydrogeology, and remediation

Qualifications
- Relevant technical degree in chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, environmental science, or related discipline
