About the Role
Our Ecology business is highly successful and as part of our ongoing plans to develop our teams, we are looking to appoint experienced Ecologists. We welcome applications from senior field ecologists seeking to expand proven report-writing skills and develop further into project management. We are also open to more senior candidates with a focus on business development and client management – the role can be adapted to the right candidate.

SLR has a team of approximately 200 ecologists across the UK and Ireland, providing expert advice on ecological and environmental issues affecting a broad range of habitats and protected species. Licensed team members handle species such as great crested newts, bats, badgers, dormice, and reptiles. We maintain strong working relationships with Natural England, the Wildlife Trust, Natural Resources Wales, and Scottish Natural Heritage.

The ecology team collaborates with other environmental professionals including planners, archaeologists, arboriculturists, landscape architects, and engineers.

Project work is varied with a strong focus on renewable energy, infrastructure, residential schemes, and other commercial developments. Responsibilities include managing ecological projects (commensurate with experience), assisting team leads with resource allocation and financial budgets, addressing client feedback, and ensuring effective communication on all projects. You will produce and oversee ecological appraisals, reports, licence applications, Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, EPS licences, and similar documents. Mentoring junior team members and carrying out or overseeing ecological surveys to ensure standards are met will also be key. Additionally, you will assist team leads with fee proposal preparation.

SLR is a global leader in Sustainability Solutions, with over 4000 employees across 6 regions in more than 125 countries. Our collaborative ‘one team’ culture supports professional development. Alongside competitive salaries, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including a company pension, excellent healthcare, travel and life insurance, and a structured career framework with regular reviews and outstanding progression opportunities. We provide 25 days annual leave plus flexible bank holidays, flexible, agile and hybrid working options, and family-friendly policies to support work-life balance.
