About the Role
Equans is seeking a highly competent Senior Fire Safety Assurance Manager to join our dynamic and growing central engineering function. This permanent role covers the Southeast of England and London, supporting approximately £150 million of contracts annually. You will work autonomously within a team of Subject Matter Experts, setting standards and delivering central support to operational colleagues. Your key responsibilities include developing guidance and policy documents to clarify fire safety disciplines, supporting operational technical staff to ensure compliance with relevant standards, and providing expert advice to strategic leaders and operational teams.
The role supports a broad range of sectors including Manufacturing, Transport, Central Government, Industrial, Retail, Leisure, Healthcare, Education, and Corporate, with specific attention to PFI contract requirements. You will lead the development of governance processes for fire safety management systems across the South Eastern portfolio and produce detailed technical fire safety reports. Additionally, you will lead investigations into fire-related incidents, provide SME support for bids, projects, and day-to-day operations, and promote best practice standards.
Key duties include setting strategic direction for fire safety projects and compliance, building relationships with client fire representatives, acting as a conduit between operations and senior leaders, interpreting legislation such as The Fire Safety Order 2005 and The Building Safety Act, managing complaints and trends, liaising with emergency services, overseeing fire-related PPM and remedial projects, conducting inspections and audits on high-risk sites, and supporting fire safety design evaluations.
You will also support the development of a fire safety insourcing strategy, provide training and mentoring on new regulations including the Fire Safety Act 2023, assist PFI contracts with maintenance and lifecycle planning, and develop fire-specific induction and auditing programmes to proactively identify and resolve issues.

Experience
Extensive experience in building fire safety and building engineering services at management level. Proven ability to draft detailed fire safety technical reports and lead investigations into fire-related incidents. Experience working within Facilities Management environments and supporting PFI contracts is highly desirable.

Member of a recognised professional body related to Fire Safety Management. Strong IT and database skills. Qualifications
Recognised qualification in a fire safety discipline with significant senior fire safety management experience. Evidence of ongoing professional development. Ability to pass a DBS Enhanced with Barred Lists check is essential.
