About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects that make a real difference globally. We are seeking an experienced professional with expertise in groundwater and wider water Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), alongside familiarity with related disciplines such as hydrogeological conceptualisation, groundwater modelling, water resources assessment and planning, dewatering and groundwater drainage, peat management, and groundwater quality. This role is available at Senior or Principal grade depending on experience, with flexibility on location and working arrangements.

Your main focus will be on EIA and Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments and related groundwater investigations for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas. Responsibilities include technical, management, and commercial duties appropriate to your experience. You will play a key role in project delivery, client and stakeholder management, reviewing technical inputs, mentoring junior colleagues, and contributing to business development.

Projects include major infrastructure developments such as Sizewell C nuclear power station, HyNET North West, and work with clients like National Grid, Scottish Power Energy Networks, and Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks. You will be part of a national Sustainable Water Management team of 350 water science and engineering professionals, contributing to the growth, development, and resourcing of the team.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience in groundwater and wider water EIA including groundwater site investigation, hydrogeological, water supply and conservation site risk assessments, and WFD assessments, preferably in consultancy.
- Demonstrable leadership or major contribution to technical inputs and teams for successful project delivery related to planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects.
- Experience preparing groundwater EIA, WFD and supporting study inputs to planning applications and environmental permits.
- Knowledge of surface water or peatland assessments is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of the Water Framework Directive and its application in the UK.
- Good knowledge of UK regulatory context for planning and EIA.
- Experience with the Development Consent Order planning regime for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects is preferred for Principal or Associate grade applicants.
- Practical project management experience including budget and team management.

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science or engineering discipline.
- Chartered status with the London Geological Society and/or CIWEM for Principal positions.
- Working towards Chartered status for Senior positions.
