About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark infrastructure projects globally, contributing your expertise in groundwater and wider-water Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). We are seeking an experienced professional to join us at either Senior or Principal level, depending on your background. You will lead and direct complex projects involving groundwater EIA, Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments, and related groundwater investigations for major infrastructure developments in the UK and overseas. Your role will encompass technical, management, and commercial responsibilities, including client liaison, project delivery, and mentoring junior colleagues. You will also play a key role in growing WSP's technical capability and innovation in sustainable water management.

Responsibilities include leading project delivery, managing client and internal stakeholder interfaces, reviewing technical inputs and outputs, preparing proposals and developing business opportunities, managing project budgets and teams, ensuring health and safety compliance, and supporting the development of junior staff. You will be part of a national Sustainable Water Management team of over 350 professionals, working on high-profile projects such as Sizewell C nuclear power station and HyNET North West, with clients including National Grid and Scottish Power Energy Networks.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience in groundwater and wider water EIA, including groundwater site investigation, hydrogeological risk assessments, water supply and conservation site risk assessments, and WFD assessments, preferably within consultancy.
- Demonstrable leadership or significant contribution to technical inputs and teams for successful project delivery related to planning and permitting of major infrastructure projects.
- Experience preparing groundwater EIA, WFD, and supporting studies for planning applications and environmental permits.
- Knowledge of surface water or peatland assessments is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of the Water Framework Directive and its application in the UK.
- Good knowledge of UK regulatory context for planning and EIA.
- Experience with the Development Consent Order planning regime for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects is preferred for Principal or Associate level applicants.
- Practical project management skills including budget and team management, with ability to manage challenging projects.

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science, or engineering discipline.
- Chartered status with the London Geological Society and/or CIWEM for Principal positions.
- Working towards Chartered status for Senior positions.
