About the Role
Join WSP and contribute to landmark infrastructure projects worldwide by applying your expertise in groundwater and wider water Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). We are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal professional with strong knowledge in groundwater EIA and familiarity with related disciplines such as hydrogeological conceptualisation, groundwater modelling, water resources assessment and planning, dewatering, groundwater drainage, peat management, and groundwater quality. You will lead and direct complex projects for a diverse range of clients, focusing primarily on EIA and Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments and groundwater investigations for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas.
Your role will encompass technical, management, and commercial responsibilities tailored to your experience. You will play a key role in project delivery, client and stakeholder management, reviewing technical inputs, and mentoring junior team members. Senior and Principal grades will also contribute to business development, proposal preparation, and growing WSP's technical capabilities and innovation.
WSP’s Sustainable Water Management team is a national group of over 350 water science and engineering professionals working on major projects such as Sizewell C nuclear power station and HyNET North West, with clients including National Grid, Scottish Power Energy Networks, and Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks. As a senior team member, you will be actively involved in team growth, development, and resource planning.
Experience
- Proven experience in groundwater and wider water EIA, including groundwater site investigation, hydrogeological, water supply and conservation site risk assessments, and WFD assessments, preferably within consultancy.
- Demonstrable leadership or major contribution to technical inputs and teams for successful project delivery related to planning and permitting of major infrastructure projects.
- Experience preparing groundwater EIA, WFD, and supporting studies for planning applications and environmental permits.
- Good understanding of the Water Framework Directive and its application in the UK.
- Strong knowledge of UK regulatory context for planning and EIA.
- Experience with the Development Consent Order planning regime for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects is preferred for Principal or Associate grade applicants.
- Practical project management skills including budget and team management.

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science, or engineering discipline.
