About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity to influence critical decisions across the UK during a rapid expansion of renewable energy developments. The role focuses on ensuring that onshore renewable energy is deployed in harmony with nature, supporting policy and advocacy on strategic planning for the UK’s energy system. You will lead the advocacy of RSPB’s onshore renewable energy policy, reflecting the latest science on the climate and nature emergencies and responding to the current energy security crisis.

Meeting the UK’s net zero targets requires major changes including significantly increasing renewable energy sources and reducing overall energy demand. The UK Government is rolling out renewable energy systems alongside planning system reforms. However, this must be done without exacerbating biodiversity loss. This role will enable you to analyse policy developments and advocate for nature-positive energy and net zero solutions aligned with RSPB’s strategic goals.

You will work within the UK Land and Climate policy team in the UK Policy and Advocacy Department, collaborating closely with colleagues across the four UK countries and with bioenergy and offshore wind policy leads. You will develop and coordinate advocacy strategies to embed RSPB’s policy positions within key external decision-making processes, including Westminster, Whitehall, and relevant arms-length bodies.

This is a fast-moving and changeable policy environment requiring adaptability and the ability to shift priorities as needed. You will be a confident public face for RSPB policy and advocacy, engaging with media and social media as appropriate.
