About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects that address critical groundwater challenges across water resources, environmental, and infrastructure sectors. We are seeking a talented and committed Technical Director to lead the Catchment Science team within our Sustainable Water Management Consulting (SWMC) group. This role involves technical leadership, project direction, mentoring hydrogeologists, and business development to grow our portfolio of high-profile projects.
Your responsibilities will include leading technical delivery of water resources hydrogeology projects, groundwater modelling, flooding, monitoring, and quality assessments. You will manage project direction including financial and change control, quality assurance, and review. Mentoring and developing junior colleagues with potential for formal people management will be key, alongside collaborating with the Technical Lead to develop hydrogeology training programs.
You will work closely with the Hydrogeology and Groundwater Services Lead to define scopes of service, generate high-quality bid proposals, and develop innovative client solutions. Producing and supervising client- and public-facing deliverables with clear communication and data visualisation will be essential. Collaboration across disciplines and sectors within WSP, including Ground & Water, EIA, and Mining teams, will be a core part of your role.
This position promotes a 'safety first' culture aligned with WSP's health and safety policies. While primarily UK based, you will also engage with WSP's global teams, contributing to a dynamic and supportive environment that fosters career progression and development.
Experience
- Extensive experience in groundwater and water resources modelling to support resource estimation, management, and environmental impact assessments.
- Strong understanding of UK hydrogeology and the environmental and regulatory framework governing UK water management.
- Proven project management skills with experience managing projects from inception to completion.
- Experience in framework management is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to understand client needs and lead successful business development and bid preparation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and influence junior staff.
- Strong commercial awareness and experience identifying and developing business opportunities.
- Exceptional report writing, technical review, numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.

Qualifications
- MSc in Hydrogeology or related discipline (e.g. geology, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, environmental science).
- BSc degree in a related discipline.
- Chartered status or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body is required.
