About the Role
As an Arcadian, you help deliver world leading sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. You will be part of a global business of 34,000 people across 30 countries dedicated to improving quality of life. This role is within our growing and agile Environmental Planning team, seeking a Technical Director with a strong track record in leading environmental and consenting aspects of projects, and experience in building and growing teams. This position suits a Chartered Town Planner passionate about integrating environmental input within the Planning process and forms part of the leadership for the Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management (PEAM) Team.
Your expertise may cover environmental management, technical or sustainability fields, including protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise. You will work on projects in some of the world’s busiest and most beautiful locations, helping to protect natural environments and water resources while supporting sustainable development.
You will contribute to a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water and defence projects, mixed-use developments for private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects, as well as smaller agile projects. You will drive technical excellence, promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation, and play a key role in delivering multidisciplinary projects across the UK and worldwide.
Key responsibilities include working as part of the Leadership team with accountability for recruitment, growth, overseeing bidding and project delivery, and leading key client relationships. You will coordinate and deliver planning and environmental work by multi-disciplinary teams, influence project development, and deliver optimal environmental and planning outcomes. Supporting business development through market profile raising, client engagement, and creating cross-selling opportunities is also essential. You will engage with consultees and stakeholders and manage projects ensuring technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety performance.
Experience
Excellent working knowledge of the UK Planning system and consenting process, including EIA practices, procedures, and case law. Solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms. Experience across a range of project types. Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience reviewing others’ work to ensure quality. Proven multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects with strong project management and technical skills. Experience consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders. Commercial expertise including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance. Experience delivering DCO/TWAO/Hybrid Bills.

Qualifications
Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards it. Full Member of RTPI.
