About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to plan and deliver the reserve management plan as part of a dedicated team responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the reserve. This includes managing estate and building infrastructure, grazing and farmland management, species and habitat monitoring, forestry, deer impact and lease management, habitat management, volunteer coordination and working holidays, machinery maintenance, health & safety, environmental compliance, delivering medium-sized projects, and overseeing visitor services.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions and values being part of a supportive team of volunteers and staff. The reserve is located in a remote and beautiful Highland community within the Flow Country, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of international importance. This expansive and inspiring blanket bog area in Sutherland and Caithness plays a vital role in wildlife conservation and carbon storage.

The recent designation of the Flow Country as the world’s first peatland UNESCO World Heritage site highlights the global significance of this landscape.

Requirements

Experience
- Land management and ecological knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of land management obligations and compliance requirements (e.g. agricultural and environmental legislation)
- Experience with health, safety and environmental site management (e.g. emergency plans and risk assessments)
- Individual and team management skills; experience working with contractors, projects, and diverse teams of staff or volunteers
- Biological monitoring, record keeping, data management, and IT skills (e.g. M365, GIS)
- Estate management skills including machinery operation and equipment servicing (e.g. chainsaw, clearing saw, tractor)

About you
- Organised with strong time management, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working alone and in remote locations
- Flexible to work occasional weekends, early mornings, and evenings
- Enjoys working outdoors in all conditions
- Holds a full, manual UK driving licence capable of driving a 4x4 in remote areas

Desirable Skills
- Experience with agricultural and environmental compliance requirements
- Knowledge of agriculture and livestock grazing for conservation
- Experience working with graziers
- Visitor engagement and interpretation skills

Qualifications
- Relevant qualifications and experience in machinery operation and land management are advantageous but not mandatory
