About the Role
At WSP, you will contribute to landmark development projects across multiple sectors, working within a well-established and high-performing Development Team. Your responsibilities will include contributing to concept studies, strategies, and drawing packages leading to planning applications, technical approval submissions, and construction issue. You will be involved in a variety of development projects simultaneously, supported by the Newcastle team to enhance your technical skills and career progression. The role involves client engagement, stakeholder management, and collaboration with internal and external design teams. You will ensure tasks are delivered on budget, on schedule, and in compliance with technical standards and legal requirements.

The Development Team focuses on project delivery throughout the entire project lifecycle, from land acquisition and planning support to design and scheme implementation. You will help deliver multi-disciplinary services including civil engineering, highways design, earthworks strategies, utilities and energy planning, drainage, flood risk and SuDS, site appraisal, due diligence, and strategic planning advice. You will work with public and private sector land promoters, house builders, developers, architects, government bodies, and local authorities.

Requirements

Experience
- Knowledge of highway design, drainage strategy and design, flood risk assessment and management, utility design and planning.
- Ability to produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations, and construction drawings under supervision.
- Experience liaising with clients, co-professionals, design teams, and statutory authorities to negotiate technical approvals and statutory agreements.
- Familiarity with relevant design codes such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, and Local Authority Design Guidance.
- Competence in using software including Info Drainage, Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or PDS.
- Awareness of legal processes, planning, design stages, technical consents, adoption, and contract procedures related to sewers, SuDS, highways, and utilities for development and regeneration projects.
- Understanding of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and project delivery.
- Postgraduate (or equivalent) experience and working towards Chartership or equivalent responsibility.

Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or related discipline.
- Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer status is desirable.
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications or equivalent experience preferred.
