About the Role
Wood PLC is expanding its Regulation and Compliance team and seeks high calibre Environmental Regulation Consultants at Senior/Principal levels, though applicants across all grades will be considered. The role involves leading and authoring Environmental Permit applications, Best Available Techniques (BAT) assessments, and environmental risk assessments to ensure compliance with permit conditions. You will undertake compliance audits and assessments, develop Environmental Management Systems and tools, and support broader company strategies related to Net Zero and the Energy Transition, including projects in major infrastructure, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and nuclear facilities.
You will work both individually and within multi-disciplinary teams, collaborating with environmental and engineering specialists across various disciplines. The role includes defining legal and regulatory obligations to enhance compliance performance, supporting business development, preparing project proposals and deliverables, and managing successful projects to achieve excellent client outcomes.
Wood’s UK environmental expertise comprises over 270 technical specialists covering planning, environmental impact assessment, ecology, air and water quality, hydrogeology, contaminated land, waste management, carbon management, sustainability, circular economy, and environmental policy, supported by engineering specialists across all disciplines.
Experience
- Relevant first degree (or equivalent) in science and/or engineering, with a preference for a relevant second degree (or equivalent).
- Experience working in environmental consultancy, client side, or with the Environmental Regulator.
- Demonstrable experience coordinating and authoring Environmental Permit applications, Best Available Techniques Assessments, and ideally environmental risk assessments.
- Experience delivering regulatory and compliance services, including determining compliance requirements, undertaking environmental audits, or developing Environmental Management Systems.
- Experience providing environmental services on engineering projects and liaising with environmental regulators is advantageous.
- Excellent proposal and report writing skills.
- Practical understanding of environmental regulation and its challenges and opportunities for clients.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications
A relevant first degree (or equivalent) in science and/or engineering is required, with preference given to candidates holding a relevant second degree (or equivalent). Additional professional qualifications or certifications related to environmental regulation and compliance are advantageous but not essential.
