About the Role
Wood is seeking an experienced nuclear industry professional to join our Regulation team as an Associate Director / Principal Consultant. This role supports the strategy and anticipated developments in the nuclear sector both in the UK and internationally. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in providing pragmatic, innovative, and enabling regulatory support for nuclear sites and projects, including construction, decommissioning, radioactive waste, and radioactive substances management.

Regulation, permitting, and consenting are core to enabling major projects, and you will lead delivery of a diverse portfolio supporting key nuclear projects and initiatives. You will contribute to the growth of our nuclear sector business across the UK, Europe, and beyond.

Our regulation team is part of a broad technical environmental group with a strong history of supporting high-profile clients and major projects, including nuclear new build, operations, and decommissioning both domestically and internationally. There will also be opportunities to support other teams on planning and consenting, safety, environment, and sustainability projects.

Key Responsibilities
Your role will involve securing and delivering regulatory projects such as developing company or site strategies, BAT or ALARP reviews, environmental permitting, nuclear site licensing, monitoring and management plans, organisational governance and management system arrangements, project and nuclear assurance, and site compliance.

You will work across various topic areas including nuclear construction projects, waste or environmental engineering/design, decommissioning, radioactive waste management, radiation protection, radiological impact assessment, risk assessment, regulatory relationships, and policy development.

You will provide technical leadership within your expertise, managing a portfolio of projects ranging from small to large multidisciplinary consultancy projects and proposals. Responsibilities include leading client relationships, preparing proposals, negotiating with clients, managing projects and subcontractors, providing advice, and delivering technical reports in line with client and regulatory requirements.

There will be opportunities to guide, mentor, and manage project teams and team members.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience as a nuclear industry professional supporting regulation of nuclear sites and projects.
- Track record in environmental regulation, permitting, and compliance within the nuclear sector.
- Experience managing projects to time, cost, and quality.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Awareness of business and project management systems.
- Desirable: Postgraduate experience working at nuclear sites in consultancy or regulatory roles.
- Desirable: Experience in business development, client management, proposal preparation, and costing.
- Ability to hold security clearance at SC level.
- Full UK driving licence is desirable.

Qualifications
- Degree in Science or Engineering (essential).
- Solid understanding of environmental issues facing nuclear sector companies, especially radioactive substances regulation.
- Solid understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and guidance with ability to interpret and apply them.
- Advanced technical skills in nuclear environmental regulation, permitting, and compliance.
- Desirable: Postgraduate qualification in environmental science, technology, engineering, or policy.
