About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to shape a unique and rewarding career. We are seeking an experienced Groundwater EIA Consultant with strong expertise in groundwater and water environment Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to lead technically complex projects across the UK and internationally. You will apply your hydrogeological knowledge in groundwater assessment, conceptualisation, modelling, Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessment, and wider water environment disciplines, supported by a national team of over 350 specialists. Depending on your experience, you can join us at either Senior or Principal level, with flexible working arrangements and multiple UK office locations available.

You will lead major infrastructure EIA and groundwater investigations, guiding technical inputs for nationally significant projects including planning and Development Consent Order (DCO) submissions across energy, water, transport, and power sectors. You will influence how WSP delivers groundwater and water EIA assessments, collaborating within a highly skilled national team across Sustainable Water Management and Earth and Environment. Mentoring junior colleagues and strengthening senior technical capability will be key aspects of your role. Join us to work on landmark infrastructure projects and make a lasting impact on communities.

What you will do
- Lead and coordinate groundwater and water environment inputs for EIA, WFD, and major infrastructure planning.
- Manage client relationships, project delivery, scope, budget, and programme.
- Review and assure technical outputs, with Principal roles providing final approval.
- Contribute to proposals and help develop new business opportunities.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and support to junior colleagues.
- Contribute to innovation and development of WSP’s groundwater and water EIA services.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across the UK.

Experience
- Proven experience in groundwater and wider water EIA, including groundwater investigations, hydrogeological assessments, WFD and related studies.
- Experience supporting planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects, ideally including DCO processes for Principal level.
- Strong understanding of the UK regulatory context for groundwater, water environment assessment, and EIA.
- Ability to manage project budgets, risks, and teams appropriate to your grade.
- Strong communication skills with experience managing client and stakeholder relationships.

About you
Motivated and experienced professional with a passion for delivering high-quality groundwater and water environment assessments. You are collaborative, able to mentor and develop junior colleagues, and keen to contribute to innovation within your field. You embrace flexible working and value inclusivity and wellbeing in the workplace.

Qualifications

- Chartered status (LGS or CIWEM) for Principal roles, or working toward chartership for Senior roles.
