About the Role
Reporting to the Overhead Line Principal Engineer and working within the Strategic Team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed design for transmission network projects (132kV and above). You will manage projects of high value and complexity within the strategic portfolio while supervising and developing less experienced staff. Your role includes providing engineering design specifications, technical support, advice, and coaching, with a focus on innovation throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include leading the technical aspects of cable and overhead line (OHL) systems, ensuring health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance, and continuous improvement. You will act as the key technical interface with Strategic Agreement Framework EPC and OEM contractors, accountable for OHL design deliverables and standardised approaches across the portfolio.

You will assess engineering documentation for feasibility and client compliance, recommend construction and outage programmes, prepare detailed engineering specifications and costings, and drive resolution of statutory, land, or other consents related to cable and OHL routes. Additionally, you will provide technical assessment of tender submissions, define equipment requirements, prepare and review drawings and specifications, and control correspondence related to project delivery.

The role also involves leading technical resolution of site and construction issues, supporting tender assessments, providing technical support to project teams, preparing quality documentation, and driving industry best practice and technological advances. You will assist with training needs assessments and mentor less experienced staff while liaising with global multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Experience
Proven significant experience and knowledge in transmission network overhead line, cable, and associated equipment engineering in a responsible position. Experience leading high value and complex projects is essential.

Ability to implement and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practices in a design environment. Capable of representing departments or project teams on cable engineering issues, decisions, standards, and industry best practice. Motivated to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience. Working towards membership of a professional institution.
