Our team is developing a dynamic transmission network to meet the growing demand for electricity and renewable energy safely, securely, and sustainably across Central and Southern Scotland, North Wales, and the North West of England.

As a Senior Engineer reporting to the Overhead Line Principal Engineer within the Strategic Team, you will lead engineering solutions from feasibility through to detailed design for transmission network projects (132kV+). You will take ownership of the technical design and delivery of cable and overhead line (OHL) systems, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Your responsibilities will include acting as the primary technical interface with EPC and OEM contractors, reviewing engineering documentation for feasibility and compliance, preparing specifications and cost estimates for complex cable and OHL designs, resolving statutory, land, and consent issues, evaluating tender submissions, and managing technical correspondence and documentation. You will ensure designs meet legislation, policies, and operational standards, lead resolution of site and construction issues, support tender assessments, provide technical guidance to Pre-Contract and Delivery teams, and promote industry best practices and innovation.

Additionally, you will contribute to the training and development of technical and safety packages, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with global engineering teams to support ScottishPower’s commitment to a Net Zero future by 2044.

Experience
Extensive experience in transmission overhead lines (OHL) and related equipment.
Proven success in delivering complex transmission cable and OHL designs.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Demonstrated ability to apply CDM and health & safety best practices in design.
Experience representing engineering decisions and standards at senior levels.

Qualifications
Degree or HND/HNC in Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience.
