As a Principal Engineer within our HV Electrical Engineering group, you will play a pivotal role in shaping technical excellence and leading a high-performing team. This position provides exposure to a diverse range of projects and technologies across the Transmission and Distribution sectors in the UK, with outstanding opportunities for both technical and leadership development. You will be based in one of our offices, working closely with clients and internal teams to deliver best-in-class solutions. Building strong, trusted relationships is central to this role, which involves a mix of office-based and client-facing environments.
Your responsibilities will include team leadership and line management, supporting recruitment and workforce planning, driving training initiatives, leading FEED and detailed design workstreams for electricity transmission substation projects, overseeing quality assurance, providing expert design reviews of HV plant aspects, managing project interfaces, acting as tender manager for HV plant packages, chairing design and hazard review meetings, attending site visits and factory acceptance tests, and maintaining and growing client relationships while contributing to business development activities.

Experience
- Proven experience in primary plant design of substations in the UK or internationally
- Experience managing technical teams
- Experience in preparing bids and cost estimates for FEED and detailed design work
- Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards (IEC, IEEE)
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Flexibility to travel to client sites when required
- Capability to work under tight deadlines while managing competing priorities
About you
Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience. Chartered Engineer status or working towards it. You are a strong leader and mentor, able to line manage and develop a team of engineers. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are committed to delivering technical excellence and client satisfaction. You have excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders effectively.
Qualifications
Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership.
