As a Principal Engineer within our HV Electrical Engineering group, you will play a pivotal role in shaping technical excellence and leading a high-performing team. You will be involved in a diverse range of projects and technologies across the Transmission and Distribution sectors in the UK, with opportunities for both technical and leadership development.
You will be based in one of our offices in Epsom, Glasgow, Leeds or Birmingham, working closely with clients and internal teams to deliver best-in-class solutions. Building strong, trusted relationships is central to this role, which involves a mix of office-based and client-facing environments.
Your responsibilities will include team leadership and line management, technical leadership of FEED and detailed design workstreams for electricity transmission substation projects, quality assurance of deliverables, expert design review of HV plant aspects, project coordination, tender management, stakeholder engagement, and business development activities. You will ensure technical integrity, compliance with client specifications, and seamless delivery of projects while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and development within your team.

Experience
- Proven experience in primary plant design of substations in the UK or internationally
- Experience managing technical teams
- Experience preparing bids and cost estimates for FEED and detailed design work
- Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards (IEC, IEEE)
About you
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership
- Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
- Flexibility to travel to client sites as required
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it
