As a Principal Engineer within our HV Electrical Engineering group, you will play a pivotal role in shaping technical excellence and leading a high-performing team. You will be involved in a diverse range of projects and technologies across the Transmission and Distribution sectors in the UK, with opportunities for both technical and leadership development. Based in Birmingham or one of our other offices, you will work closely with clients and internal teams to deliver best-in-class solutions, thriving in a mix of office-based and client-facing environments.
Your responsibilities will include team leadership and line management, supporting recruitment and workforce planning, driving training initiatives, leading FEED and detailed design workstreams for electricity transmission substation projects, overseeing quality assurance, providing expert design reviews of HV plant aspects, managing project interfaces, acting as tender manager for HV plant packages, chairing design and hazard review meetings, attending site visits and testing activities, and maintaining and growing client relationships while contributing to business development.

Experience
- Proven experience managing technical teams
- Extensive experience in primary plant design of substations in the UK or internationally
- Experience preparing bids and cost estimates for FEED and detailed design work
- Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards such as IEC and IEEE
About you
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards it
- Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Flexibility to travel to client sites as required
- Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage competing priorities, and achieve objectives effectively
