About the Role
Shape the future of our cities and environments by joining AtkinsRéalis as a Principal Waste Water Process Engineer within the Design & Advanced Technology (D&AT) Practice. You will be part of a talented, multi-disciplinary team delivering cutting-edge, iconic projects for major UK water clients including Thames Water, Anglian Water, South East Water, Southern Water, and other regional authorities. This role offers the opportunity to work on transformational programmes for critical UK infrastructure and landmark engineering projects both domestically and internationally.

Key responsibilities include coordinating or managing a team of Process Engineers to deliver technical design work on projects ranging from small to complex multi-disciplinary schemes, following relevant national and project-specific design codes and standards. You will produce and review technical deliverables such as design reports, process calculations, and process control philosophies, working independently with minimal guidance. You will provide technical input into project design deliverables, manage time and budgets alongside project management, and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

Mentorship of junior colleagues and growing Process Engineering capabilities within the team are important aspects of the role. You will also provide technical support for bid proposals and work closely within multi-disciplinary teams both in the UK and overseas. Adherence to quality assurance standards and thorough review of your own and others’ work is essential.

Experience
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, preferably IChemE or CIWEM.
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent (e.g. Environmental, Water and Waste Water Engineering).
- Strong knowledge and design experience in waste water treatment processes including preliminary, primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary treatment, sludge treatment, and integrated principles such as emissions, odour, carbon and energy management.
- Practical knowledge of current design codes, standards, and industry best practices including CDM Regulations.
- Experience delivering projects adhering to UK safety and environmental regulations, process safety techniques (e.g. HAZOP), capital and operational cost knowledge, risk assessments, and whole life carbon assessments.
- Proven experience leading treatment process design elements and integrating them within existing or new treatment processes.
- Experience leading, coordinating, or managing people in a Process Engineering design delivery team within a multi-disciplinary consultancy environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal technical guidance.
- Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly within diverse teams.
