In our commercial function, our job is clear: to help our teams manage the risks and realise the opportunities in bidding, winning and delivering great projects. This includes providing leadership in commercial matters directly with clients, making business easy and WSP easy to do business with. You will develop commercial best practice, processes and resources in support of WSP's strategy, demonstrate the value of the commercial role, and focus on governance, risk and opportunity with all stakeholders. You will also provide dispute resolution support and champion our Project First approach.

Our work covers every stage of a project's life cycle, from initial environmental impact assessment and socioeconomic studies to feasibility, design, permitting, planning, operations, decommissioning and asset remediation.

Reporting to the Commercial Lead for Earth and Environment, you will provide commercial support, challenge and oversight to Project Directors and Project Managers. You will implement commercial best practice either as an embedded resource on major projects or supporting a portfolio of projects by checking, challenging and upskilling project delivery teams. Success will be measured by tangible improvements in project commercial performance, delivering on time and within budget to client satisfaction while maximising opportunities and revenue.

You will provide commercial expertise in support of disciplines, major projects or portfolios, raise commercial awareness within the business, support project teams to identify, price and agree contract changes, ensure compliance with contract terms and maximise value recovery. You will help instil robust cost management, promote clear scopes, manage risk and identify opportunities. Additionally, you will assist with pre-contract activities by providing commercial appraisals of legal and operational risks.

Experience
- Proven track record supporting successful delivery of design contracts for Earth and Environment clients and Design and Build contractor partners, including major multi-disciplinary projects.
- Ability and confidence to challenge and support senior project staff.
- Experience explaining complex commercial matters simply.
- Understanding of contract financial management principles.
- Ability to advise technical staff on contractual and legal considerations for built environment projects.
- Experience drafting contractual correspondence.
- Proactive engagement in risk identification, evaluation and mitigation.
- Proven capability working collaboratively with a strong teamwork ethos.
- Subcontractor management including commercial model development, procurement and post-contract management.

About you
- Strong drive with sound judgement; knowing when to act and when to ask.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in person and virtually.
- Ability to work within a corporate governance framework and advise others on its practical application.

Qualifications
- Degree qualified and/or membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional body such as MICE, MRICS or MCIOB is preferable.
- Significant relevant experience in a similar role.
- Experienced in the use of standard forms of contract, particularly NEC.
