About the Role
Hoare Lea is a human-centric and planet-conscious engineering consultancy offering intelligent and sustainable solutions to complex design challenges for the built environment across the UK and beyond. As one of the UK’s largest building engineering consultancies, we collaborate with top engineers and provide access to state-of-the-art technical support, working on high-profile projects such as Canolfan Pentre Awel in Carmarthen, Multi-Megawatt Data Centre Campus, Oxford North in Oxford, One Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester, Gwynfaen in Swansea, and the nature-based net-zero neighbourhood of Earls Court in London.
As a Graduate Sustainability Consultant, you will be exposed to all aspects of sustainability consultancy to discover your strengths. Your day-to-day tasks may include:
- Working on live projects across sectors including healthcare, hotels, retail, and residential
- Undertaking building performance simulation and energy-related workstreams using various modelling tools and techniques
- Developing energy strategies to lead sustainability innovation
- Assisting in environmental assessments such as BREEAM, WELL, HQM from early design to completion
- Developing knowledge of whole life carbon reporting to support Net Zero Carbon strategies
- Conducting site surveys and researching innovative technologies
- Supporting the development of holistic Sustainability Strategies where needed
Beyond project work, you may engage in industry research, development studies, and authoring guidance, with opportunities to influence the wider industry. Communication will be key, involving collaboration with project teams, clients, and stakeholders.

Experience
Previous placement or work experience in a similar industry is advantageous but not essential.

- Serious about sustainability with an appreciation of broader issues such as governance, reporting, climate change adaptation, and behaviour change
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Friendly, ambitious, confident, flexible, and resilient approach to work
Qualifications
- Expected or achieved 2.1 or above degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Architecture, Built Environment, or similar
- A Masters or relevant postgraduate qualification is advantageous but not required
- Knowledge or awareness of BREEAM, WELL, Whole Life Carbon, Energy Modelling is a plus
