About the Role
Hoare Lea is a human-centric and planet-conscious engineering consultancy offering intelligent and sustainable solutions to complex design challenges for the built environment across the UK and beyond. We provide a wide range of engineering and consultancy services including acoustics, air quality, building services (MEP), fire, lighting, security, and sustainability. Our highly skilled teams use technical expertise and problem-solving skills to bring buildings to life, ensuring outstanding design and operational performance that meets community needs.

As a Graduate Sustainability Consultant, you will join one of the UK’s largest building engineering consultancies and collaborate with some of the best engineers in the business. You will have access to state-of-the-art technical support and the opportunity to work on large, high-profile projects such as Canolfan Pentre Awel in Carmarthen, Multi-Megawatt Data Centre Campus, Oxford North, One Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester, Gwynfaen in Swansea, and the nature-based net-zero neighbourhood of Earls Court in London.

Your day-to-day tasks will vary as you gain exposure to all aspects of our work to discover your strengths and interests. You could be working on live projects from day one across diverse sectors including healthcare, hotels, retail, and residential. Responsibilities include undertaking building performance simulation and energy-related workstreams using various modelling tools and techniques, developing energy strategies to lead sustainability innovation, assisting with environmental assessments (BREEAM, WELL, HQM, etc.) from early design to completion, and developing knowledge of whole life carbon reporting to support Net Zero Carbon strategies.

You will also undertake site surveys, research ground-breaking technologies, engage in continuous professional development, and support the development of holistic Sustainability Strategies. Beyond project work, Hoare Lea actively participates in industry research, development studies, and authors guidance, offering opportunities to influence the wider industry.

Communication is key in this role, involving regular liaison with project teams, clients, end users, and collaborative meetings. You will be supported through our accredited training and development scheme with a dedicated mentor and supervisor, with opportunities to progress towards Chartership if desired.

We offer a structured Career Paths framework, enabling you to advance your career your way while working on progressive and exciting projects from day one.
