About the Role
Balfour Beatty are seeking an Ecology Area Lead to manage ecological deliverables for a section of the LTC scheme, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, and quality standards. This role involves managing site clearance in line with protected species licences and site guidance, conducting on-site inspections and watching briefs, guiding the programme and on-site measures required from works information, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company standards. Reporting to the Natural Environment Manager and project leads, you will lead the delivery of ecological requirements, develop ecological constraints and management plans, build relationships with design and internal teams, ensure site compliance with ecological legislation, and coach construction teams on controls and mitigations. You will also lead investigations and reporting on ecological incidents and provide pragmatic advice and site support to operational teams.

Experience
- Excellent knowledge of ecological management and mitigation
- Excellent understanding of ecological legislation for development
- Good level of commercial awareness
- Good understanding of environmental management for construction sites
- Good understanding of the utilities, construction, or engineering operating environment
- Literate in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Full UK driver’s licence and flexibility to travel

About You
You are a proactive and knowledgeable ecology professional capable of leading ecological deliverables on large infrastructure projects. You have strong communication skills to build and maintain relationships with design and internal teams and can coach construction teams on ecological compliance in pragmatic and cost-effective ways.

Qualifications
- Desirable: Experience working on large scale infrastructure construction projects
- Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecology or related subject
- At least one protected species survey licence, preferably hazel dormouse or bat level 1 or 2
- Full CIEEM Membership
