About the Role
Balfour Beatty is a leading infrastructure company delivering key low carbon projects including public transport networks, renewable energy grid connections and nuclear power stations. Low carbon infrastructure is a key growth area aligned with the UK Government's Net Zero Strategy, mobilising significant capital investment in wind power, energy efficient buildings, carbon capture and new nuclear capability. We are recruiting a Responsible Sourcing Manager to embed sustainability into the Lower Thames Crossing supply chain, a National Highways low carbon Pathfinder Project.

Reporting into the Procurement Function with support from the Group Responsible Sourcing Function, you will work closely with Sustainability, Procurement and Commercial teams to implement sustainability initiatives with supply chain partners. This role focuses on aligning with our sustainability strategy, Building New Futures, and the Client’s project requirements, with a strong emphasis on carbon reduction.

You will lead sustainable procurement activities across tenders, contracts and programme deliverables, increase awareness of Responsible Sourcing within Procurement, Commercial and Sustainability functions, and engage with Clients to align objectives, KPIs and project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
- Act as Responsible Sourcing lead for the Lower Thames Crossing Roads North team, embedding sustainability into procurement strategy, package design, tender evaluation, contract conditions and supplier performance management.
- Coordinate and manage procurement tenders focused on carbon reducing commodities.
- Collaborate with Project Procurement, Commercial teams and Group Responsible Sourcing to ensure consistent application of Balfour Beatty tools, policies and governance.
- Lead sustainability input into tenders, early contractor engagement and supplier selection, ensuring compliance with legislation, public procurement requirements and client expectations.
- Provide sustainability subject matter expertise in client and supply chain forums, representing Balfour Beatty on responsible sourcing, carbon and ESG matters.
- Ensure supply chain ESG data sharing meets client requirements, supporting onboarding, compliance and data quality.
- Identify and drive opportunities to improve sustainability outcomes, focusing on supply-chain-led carbon reduction, innovation, resource efficiency and value creation.
- Support and coordinate steel decarbonisation activities to meet Construction Leadership Council’s 5 Client Carbon Commitments and LTC-specific requirements.
- Develop and deliver training and capability-building initiatives for procurement teams, project teams and supply chain partners.
- Promote consistent understanding and application of responsible sourcing standards, tools and expectations across the project and supply chain.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers, clients and internal stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor.
- Align with Ethical Sourcing, Modern Slavery, Social Impact and Carbon leads to embed their requirements into the supply chain approach.

Subject Matter Expertise:
- Knowledge of Sustainable Procurement standards and certification schemes such as ISO 20400, ResponsibleSteel, BES6001, and Construction Leadership Council’s 5 Client Carbon Commitments.
- Strong competence in carbon management including Scope 3 carbon reporting, PAS 2080, Environmental Product Declarations and whole life carbon.
- Understanding of responsible sourcing risks in infrastructure manufacturing including human rights issues.
- Industry expertise in steel sustainability.
