About the Role

Reporting to the Balfour Beatty Ecology Technical Specialist and project leads, the Senior Site Ecologist will perform key activities including:
- Working closely with the project Environmental Manager
- Leading delivery of project ecological requirements
- Developing and implementing ecological management plans
- Building and maintaining relationships with regulators, clients, design teams, and internal teams
- Ensuring site compliance with ecological legislation and coaching construction teams in applying controls and mitigations in pragmatic, cost-effective ways
- Maintaining the company environmental management system in line with changing standards and legislation and liaising with senior team leads on required changes
- Leading investigations and reporting on ecological incidents
- Providing pragmatic advice and site support to operational teams on ecological requirements

Experience
- Excellent knowledge of ecological management and mitigation
- Excellent understanding of ecological legislation for development
- Good level of commercial awareness
- Good understanding of environmental management for construction sites
- Good understanding of the utilities, construction or engineering operating environment
- Literate in MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook
- Excellent communication skills

About you
- Full driver’s licence and flexibility to travel
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with regulators, clients, design teams and internal teams
- Pragmatic and cost-effective approach to ecological controls and mitigations

Qualifications
The following are desirable:
- Experience of working on large scale infrastructure construction projects
- Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecology or related subject
- At least one protected species survey licence, preferably hazel dormouse or bat level 1 or 2
- Full CIEEM Membership
